Burgess Falls-Haven't heard of it? Well we hadn't either. We were planning to go and buy tile at the tile outlet store in Crossville, Tn and planned to stay the night, so I got on the computer and checked to see what was near by. I seen a website for Burgess Falls State Park-We love parks, nature, and history, so it was a go for us. Now driving there from Cookville, Tn, it is 8 miles out of town. Believe me it seems longer. As we are driving Mark is like this is a State Park? Because the road isn't very well maintained and is kinda out of the way. After getting there it is very nice, it has nice bathrooms a small playground, picnic shelter, ect. We start down to the river, it has 3 falls, the first one is the smallest and you had to walk a small path down the side of the river, there were alot of roots in the walkway and sometimes you were on the side of a bluff. The second falls were a little bigger and very pretty. Then we had to start walking up and up a little more by the time we got to the Large waterfall we were sweaty-it was muggy outside. But the view was unbelievable, I cannot even describe it, then we saw a sign that we could walk down to the bottom of the falls-SWEET. I am all for that. Very far down, very steep, rocky path but after you see the view-Oh my word it is breathtaking down there, the wind is blowing pretty strong and alot of spray comes off of the waterfall. It was definately one of my favorite trips ever. Going back up was HOT and I remembered really fast just how out of shape I was. After taking a rest we were back on our way. Mark, Chad, Clay and I had a great time and just loved it. It's great for just a day trip too. There were alot of small kids there too, its not too bad you just have to keep them close. Check it out you will not be dissapointed if you like nature.
